This thesis focuses on reflection and refraction of seismic waves at
layer interfaces in a horizontally multi-layered model. Therefore, the
publication of Leyds and Fokkema (Leyds, F.B. and Fokkema, J.T., 1988. A
discrete-time inverse scattering algorithm for plane wave incidence in a
one-dimensional inhomogeneous acoustic medium.) was mathematically
incorporated and extended. The aims of this thesis are solving the forward
and the inverse problem. Firstly, pressure waves within a layered model
will be calculated to solve the forward problem.Secondly, the acoustic
admittance of each layer will be calculated to solve the inverse problem.
Effects which occur due to post-critical incidence are presented in the
last part of this thesis. These effects disturb the methods which solve the
forward and inverse scattering problem.
